10 checks before publishing
Before a web page goes live, consider whether your page:
- Follows digital written content guidance and tone of voice
- Is accessible to all users
- Has a call-to-action that corresponds with the content and user journey - guiding them in the right direction
- Is optimised for search
- Includes descriptive embedded hyperlinks where relevant
- Inspires action, educates, or delivers on its promise
- Has a clear, well-structured layout that doesn't duplicate content from elsewhere
- Is measurable - where possible, it should gather data for ongoing content optimisation to assess whether content is working
- Has been proofread for an error-free reading experience
- Is built using a responsive layout and it looks good viewed on multiple devices: desktop, mobile and tablet
For more information on some of the above points, please see the following pages:
Web page layouts
The public website is built around our different customer types (for example customer, adviser, employer). This means that each page on the website sits within an audience specific section and the audience (for example, ‘for advisers only’) no longer needs to be specified at the top of the.
Other web page types include: landing page, article group listing page, corporate actions list page, search results page, single page application (SPA) page and error page. If you require one of these, please contact the Digital Operations Team.
Promo panels
Promotional panels (‘promo panels’) are used further down pages instead of banners to signpost links, such as the link above to the templates page. There are more examples on this page.
Header banners
Banners are used on the public website to host the H1 title and description at the top of the page. As standardised banners are automatically created in AEM using photography chosen from the approved bank of images and relevant titles/subtitles, we no longer need APS to design header banners for us. For creative campaign banners, please complete the APS brief.
Images uploaded to the DAM to be used on the public website should be 1920x1080px.
You can see an example of a header banner using photography at the top of this page.
An example of a page not using photography in its header banner is the digital events page.
Banners for email
Image sizing for Marketing Cloud:
Image type | Size |
---|---|
JPEGs (used for bespoke images) | 540x304px |
PNGs (icons and any images that require transparent backgrounds) | 181x181px |
Please not that the PNG size will work across all blocks
Uploading new images to Marketing Cloud:
- Navigate to (or create) your ‘campaign folder’ – i.e. where you’ve saved/will be saving your email template.
- Either drag and drop your images into the white space, or ‘Select action’, ‘Upload’ and find your image.
- Once dragged or selected, your list of images should appear in a bar along the top of the folder. If your images are blank, ensure you aren't dragging images from a zipped folder. Folders must be unzipped before uploading.
- Click ‘Upload and Publish’ below the images.
- You may need to navigate away from the folder and back to see the image in the folder.
